The children were all keen to put on their outdoor clothing and head out to our Forest School site once again. They were amazed about all the changes that have happened in the nature – there is no longer “a big puddle” on Port Meadow, the horses and cows are back and crazing happily and the forest is full of flowers, birdsong and … nettles!
Exploring the nettles has instantly shown to be a great hit. It must feel dangerous as there is a clear risk of getting stung. But the risk is manageable and children feel in control. They have shown that they can cope well with the stings that they have encountered so far. Having a small mud kitchen – water together with pots and pans – turned out to be an equally exciting addition to the forest fun.
