Welcome to our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) page.

In EYFS, we recognise and respect each child’s strengths and talents. We believe in praising effort and valuing the little steps that really make a difference to a child’s progress. We know that by doing this, we are developing happy, secure children, who feel safe and enabled.

 

We aim for the children in our setting to be:

· Confident and Resilient

· Enthusiastic and inspired to learn.

· Socially strong and able to form positive relationships.

 

We recognise that all children are unique, we celebrate and welcome diversity within our school community and promote inclusion and equality. Our curriculum is child centred following the interests and fascinations of the children in the year group. We are passionate about children leading and immersing themselves in their learning. We strive to embed a language of learning based on the characteristics of effective learning; and our whole school ‘Growth Mindset’ approach.

EYJ and EYP

There are two reception classes in EYFS.

EYJ are taught by Ms Cheang. Within EYJ children are arranged into two keyworker groups – Blue Whales and Yellow Seahorses. EYP are taught by Mrs Ponsonby. The key worker groups in EYP are the Red Crabs and the Green Turtles.

 

The EYFS Framework

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Statutory Framework for the Early years Foundation Stage.  This document specifies the requirements for learning and development in the EYFS and provides the prime and specific areas of learning we must cover in our curriculum. Through our knowledge of each child and formative assessments, the EYFS team plan exciting and engaging activities that will move the children’s learning forward.

Underpinning our curriculum are reading, phonics, vocabulary, oracy and maths. Key tools in all aspects of learning and success. We encourage pupils to make connections and links in their learning within and beyond the curriculum to foster a lifelong love of learning.

The school follows the Monster Phonics program using resources to support this. Every child has access to a phonics session every day with intervention opportunities for those who find this area of learning more difficult. We use the Kinetic Letters Handwriting scheme to also develop children’s expertise in handwriting. Please see below for more information about phonics

In Maths we follow the White Rose progression. This is a scheme of learning that has been carefully planned and developed to encourage children to become fluent in a concept, before learning and applying reasoning and problem solving skills.
