This week, the children explored the disciplines of geometry, and how the properties of space can create fantastic pieces of artwork. Mathematicians and artists have to think creatively; they have to look at the same thing from different angles and then represent that ‘thing’.
During Maths Week we merged our understanding of Geometry and skills in art and created unique pieces. The children took their inspiration from Kandinsky, Kelly, Escher, Klee, Steichen, Picasso and the optical artists Vasarely and Riley. As Marston Morse said, ‘Out of an infinity of designs a mathematician chooses one pattern for beauty’s sake and pulls it down to earth.’
