Spelling with ‘Special Friends’

Miss Coleman and Miss Deedigan’s phonics group have been learning how to read and write with ‘Special Friends’.

‘Special Friends’ are letters that go together to make a sound. Sometimes 2 letters make a sound like in play and sometimes it can be 3 or 4 letters that go together to make a sound like in might. Children are encouraged to find their ‘Special Friend’ first when reading new words.

This group were set a challenge to see how many ‘ay’ and ‘ee’ words they could spell correctly in 10 minutes and look how well they did!
