Science Week 2026

During British Science Week each year group carried out exciting investigations:

Year 4 investigated how the type of chocolate affects the time taken to melt.
  • Riff C observed, “The more butter, the faster it melts.”
  • Razaan noticed that, “90% dark chocolate had strong particles that when heated take longer to melt than white chocolate.”
  • Timothy explained that White chocolate had no cocoa solids, but 90% dark chocolate did, which made it melt slower.”
Year 3 asked Does the way we make a glider affect how it travels?
  • Ioli said, “Lift made it stay up and the weight changes the force on it.”
  • Matthew A added that the shape and weight of the glider can change the forces on it, like lift that helps it stay in the air and air resistance that slows it down.”
Year 5 explored how the environment affects how a spinner falls.
  • Jonah explained, “…things like wind or air movement change the air resistance, which can make the spinner fall slower, faster, or spin differently.”
  • Maya T observed, “The larger the spinner, the more air resistance, so the longer it took to fall.”
EYFS and Year 1 experimented with how a sail affects how far a boat travels  while Year 2 investigated what our clothes are made of and why.
Year 6 investigated how different exercise affect heart rate.
It was wonderful to see our pupils’ asking questions, making predictions and learning by testing and observing—all the hallmarks of great science!
